On June 20, 2025, Nuvvon announced that it would release samples of 1Ah and 5Ah solid-state rechargeable lithium-ion pouch batteries, marking a significant breakthrough in its solid-state battery scalability technology. These samples will be introduced for the first time this autumn.
Jonathan Lex, Nuvvon's Chief Operating Officer, stated, "This is a true breakthrough moment for us. Although we have always believed that our technology is highly scalable and compatible with existing lithium-ion manufacturing infrastructure, our top priority was to advance materials science. Now, by successfully producing larger-format batteries, we have proven that our approach is viable, paving the way for faster commercialization."
The expansion from 72mAh to 1Ah and 5Ah pouch batteries indicates that Nuvvon's technology has surpassed the laboratory-scale prototype stage.
Key performance characteristics of Nuvvon's solid-state electrolyte (SPE) technology include:
Over 2000 cycle lives (1C/1C); NMC811 cathode
Wide operating temperature range: -20°C to +60°C (-4°F to 140°F)
Fully solid-state composition, with no liquid electrolyte
Passing all common safety tests (e.g., nail penetration, thermal runaway)
Operating under normal pressure (no stacking pressure)
Dr. Simon Madgwick, Nuvvon's CEO, further explained, "Since our expanded team moved into the new, larger facility, progress has exceeded expectations. We know our product is unique—a fully solid-state, compression-free battery—that has now reached commercial grade and is fully produced using existing lithium-ion processes. It has been a tough job, but we are almost ready to take orders for samples."
Nuvvon will first introduce a baseline product for potential partners to test and evaluate. Meanwhile, the company will focus on developing fast charging/discharging and extreme high/low temperature variant batteries tailored to specific customer applications. Batteries with 10-20Ah capacity can also be provided upon request.
SMM Analysis:
Nuvvon's announcement of releasing 1Ah and 5Ah solid-state rechargeable lithium-ion pouch battery samples in autumn 2025 represents a significant advancement in its solid-state battery technology scalability. The introduction of this product may accelerate the global development and application of solid-state battery technology. Meanwhile, for US enterprises that have lagged behind China in the liquid battery sector, this is undoubtedly a new breakthrough, offering the possibility of leading from the same starting line.
